Notary Public Integrity

Understanding the Role and Integrity of a Notary Public

Notary Public Integrity – A Notary Public is a state-appointed official entrusted with upholding integrity and serving the public by acting as an impartial witness during the signing of important documents. As a fraud-deterrent professional, the Notary Public plays a crucial role in ensuring the authenticity of signatures and the validity of documents.

My Commitment to Notarial Integrity Notary Public Integrity

As a dedicated Notary Public, I take my responsibilities very seriously. It’s astonishing how often I am asked to act contrary to the fundamental duties of a Notary Public. I want to make it crystal clear that there are specific legal boundaries that I—and all Notaries—must adhere to without exception.

Three Things a Notary Public Cannot Do:

  1. Notarize Without Witnessing the Signature: A Notary Public cannot notarize a document unless they have personally witnessed the signer affixing their signature. This is a fundamental requirement to ensure the signer’s identity and willingness to sign.
  2. Notarize Without Valid Identification: A Notary Public cannot notarize a document without verifying the signer’s identity through valid identification. This step is crucial to prevent fraud and ensure that the person signing is who they claim to be.
  3. Notarize Incomplete or Blank Documents: A Notary Public cannot notarize a document that is incomplete or contains blank spaces. Notarizing such documents could lead to unauthorized alterations and potential fraud.

Engaging in any of these prohibited actions is not only unethical but also illegal. As Notaries, we are bound by state law to validate signatures with the utmost integrity and professionalism.

Maintaining Professional Integrity – Notary Public Integrity

I encourage everyone to respect the legal and ethical boundaries that govern notarial acts. When requesting notarial services, please understand that we, as Notaries Public, are committed to upholding our duties with honesty and integrity. We cannot—and will not—compromise on these standards.

—  I take my profession of being a Notary Public very seriously. It blows my mind how many times I am asked to do the opposite of what a Notary Public is supposed to do.  I am constantly called for notary service and asked to NOT perform my duties. Just for the record, There are three things a Notary Public (me) CAN NOT do:

  • A Notary Public CAN NOT notarize a document without witnessing the signer sign it.

  • A Notary Public CAN NOT notarize a document without valid identification of the signer.

  • A Notary Public CAN NOT notarize a document that is incomplete or blank.

It is illegal to perform any of these acts as a Notary Public.  Please think before you ask us to go against our moral and business integrity.  We are officially, by law, governed by the state to validate the signature of a signer.
